Harlequin: The name of an Italian commedia dell'arte character, traditionally dressed in a patchwork costume of triangular, multicoloured bits if cloth. He wears a black mask over his eyes and carries a wooden sword stuck in his belt. He embodies in youth the funny fellow, playing spiteful practical jokes and yet childish and capricious despite his cunning. The last characteristic is emphasized by his motley costume. He incarnates the undecided, inconsistant person who lacks character, ideas and principles. His sword is only made of wood and his face is masked, while his clothes are mere patchwork. That they are in a chequer-board pattern suggests a confrontational situation, that of the person who has failed to achive individualization, personalization or detachment from desires, schemes and potential courses of action.

Libertine: A man who is unrestrained by convention, morality, conformity, and religion.

Latest Obsessions: Peggy Moffitt, Gottfried Helnwein, Persian rugs, Cockney rhyming slang, Wichester Mystery House, Jake the alligator man.
