Based at 116 Lakeview Road, Nova Scotia Halifax Regional Search and Rescue is a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives. First established in 1972 as Waverley Ground Search and Rescue, Halifax Regional Search and Rescue is one of four Search and Rescue Teams serving the citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality.

The operations of the organization are almost entirely funded through community support and fundraising efforts.

The team remains on stand-by for lost person incidents and civil emergency response 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We provide assistance to the RCMP, Regional Police, Emergency Measures Organization (Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality), other Search and Rescue Teams and municipal, provincial and federal agencies as requested.

In addition, the Team has a very active public education program, educating children, youth and adults in woods-proofing programs. The team is a registered charity with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.
