I started taking pictures with a Woolworths' camera bought in Rhyl, Wales, in 1954. I graduated to a folding Kodak and began processing my own film around 1957. I continued to use B/W, while progressing to colour slides and then prints.

In 2004, I retired after decades of teaching college mathematics to tend my garden and make pottery, and to photograph. I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon E5700, which I have used to record events and also to attempt "artistic" shots.

In 2006, I upgraded to a Nikon D80. This camera died within 15 months, due to my taking pics while it gently snowed.

In 2008 I upgraded to a D300, which the brochure describes as being protected from "causal" moisture - likely "casual" moisture.
