I am not an artistic photograper; some might say that is very obvious! Instead, I use photography to record things that I like, especially vernacular architecture and industrial archaeology. My photographs cover subjects ranging from humble street furniture to majestic cathedrals.

I have always been interested in architecture and started photographing Nottingham in the late 1970s when developers were tearing down the old Victorian city. I started with buildings that everyone walked past every day but ignored because they didn't bother to look above the shop fronts. The project has since grown to include railways, canals, windmills and vernacular architecture in other parts of the country.

My first 'proper' camera was a Zenit B 35mm SLR with a Helios f2 lens, used with a Leningrad 4 hand-held lightmeter, but most of my pictures from the late 1970s onwards were taken on a Pentax K1000 manual 35mm SLR with a Pentax SMC 28mm f2.8 lens. I then used a Pentax K100D Super digital SLR with a 16-55mm f2.8 DA* lens, and wish it had been available when I took most of the my early photographs. I also use a Pentax 10-17mm f3.5 fisheye lens and many of my church photos have been taken with this fantastic lens. The ultra wide angle allows for some dramatic shots. I have recently upgraded to a Pentax K7, a fantastic camera.

I used to shoot mostly in RAW and process my pictures in Photoshop, as this got the best out of my K100D, but since moving up to the K7 I have reverted to Jpeg as the K7 processes these much better than the K100D.

I hope you enjoy my pictures and that they bring back good memories to those who knew the old Nottingham. For those who don't know this great city, I hope they inspire you to visit it sometime or even take up photography and start your own similar project.
