Gropp’s Gallery proudly presents: Blood and Culture.

Because we needed a good excuse to build ourselves a mansion.

After 2 intense years of construction, growth and madness – Gropp’s Gallery is making its debut on the international stage when the world comes to Vancouver this Winter 2010. An artist’s haven, nestled in the vibrant Mount Pleasant community, Gropp’s is home to 5 resident artists, and over 10 studio artists, including painters, photographers, printmakers, sculptors, musicians and other mixed media artists. The house boasts an archives, library, costume collection, metal and wood shop, gardens, shrines, secret closet bar and many, many bicycles. And an art gallery.

Blood and Culture explores culture from the point of view of artists who have centered themselves in a consumerist and developing metropolis. Two years ago, the founders of the collective chose to accept the opportunity of the Gropp House (an 1888 Victorian Manor, in decrepit condition) as the ideal location for a sociogeolical experiment in alternate systems of living and thought. The Gropp House exists as a Micro-Utopic impulse, a desire that brings groups of people together with the shared goal of creating time-spaces of Utopia.

The kids that are part of Gropp’s house live with intention. We believe in freedom of community and expression, and uphold the values of knowledge, action and antiquity. We maintain a conviction in Wonder; in activation of the psyche, “Mind at Large” group manifestation, and the new old way to see things. We are preparing to expect the unexpected. We will welcome you into our world and offer you cheese pies.

We invite you to jam with us, get weird, climb in our tub, visit our studios and get in the mix.
