I'm an amateur photographer who started with black and white film many years ago, then had a long hiatus until a couple of years ago, when we acquired a DSLR. Since then I've gotten very interested in high dynamic range (HDR) photography, as it provides a way to more closely capture what my eye sees.

I live in Downeast Maine, which provides lots of opportunity for landscape and outdoor photography. I also do volunteer photography for the Ellsworth YMCA.

This quote, which I saw in Thomas Hawk's profile, perfectly captures my interest in photography:

I discovered that this camera was the technical means in photography of communicating what the world looks like in a state of heightened awareness. And it's that awareness of really looking at the everyday world with clear and focused attention that I'm interested in.
