By the age of 12 I'd managed to save up the grand total of £87. With the help of my Dad, I bought a second hand Pentax K-1000 SLR with a 50mm f1.7 lens for £85. I've loved photography ever since.

The arrival of digital changed things significantly, and I stuck to point and shoot cameras for several years. It wasn't until the Nikon D80 came out that I thought I'd be happy with a DSLR in my price range, so I bought one with the kit zoom. I don't like zooms, and I wasn't altogether impressed with the D80. I missed my 50mm f1.7.

In early 2011 I bought a Panasonic GF1. I had been waiting for the GF2, but having tried them both I decided to plump for the GF1 with the extra knobs and switches, and the 20mm f1.7 lens. It's superb, and revived my interest in photography. I've since bought a couple of fast prime lenses for the D80, which made it quite apparent how good a camera it is.

And my old K-1000? I still have it (along with an ME Super) and often mount the 50mm lens on the GF1, with very pleasing results. Here's an example:
