Born in '73, residing in the Philippines
Pencils only comic artist.
ARTISTIC FLAIR:
I specialize and prefer drawing fantasy creatures,
medieval (preferably Norse-inspired) characters,
"monsters and freaks", post-nuclear themes,
techno-magical/medieval themes, Dungeonpunk,
weird proportions and obscenely-buff characters,
BUT not limited to this style.
I have quite a bit of skill at character designing.
I am better at character creation.
Take note: those two are entirely different skills.
And I am also currently learning how to infuse
Steampunk into my themes.
TOOLS of the TRADE:
Tthe artworks posted here were done on an 8.5' x 11' eggshell drawing paper. I used a 2b "blue lead" with some 6b, 2b and HB black lead.
Now, I make use of a .07 blue-lead mech.pen, 2b & 4b Staedtler Mars Lumograph and .03 hb mechanical pencils for finer detailing.
WORK PROCESS:
I regularly produce 4 - 6 pages in 5 days. If the script is simple enough and if I am attending to only one client.
VISIONS of the PAST:
My first job was a penciler in Entity/C.A.T.S. Comics. I worked on Harriers 1-3 and Aster 0. I'm not quite proud of it as I was still very young specially my art. I worked on a full 11'x15' page, used a 2b .05 mechanical pencil and a 2b 2mm. clutch pencil (black lead).
I then moved on to book illustrations in Marketing Horizons where I did the pencils for an informational/educational book, which I never got to see. The book was called Journeys and Superkids.
After that, I got some animation training in PASI for a year which did not end well. After a few years, I had another gig with cartoons... This time it's an IB/Clean-up training in Sunwoo Studios. Got hired after that. (Animation did not agree well with my art style... although, I did get a few techniques that works very well with my current style)
Months later, I did some storyboard clean-ups under Art Director Yuri Timg of DigDeep Entertainment for a live-action (Hongkong) romance-comedy movie called "The Perfect Guy" the director/writer's name is Duc Lu.
Then I later got hired by Studio 407's Alex Leung to work on a few issues of Tiger & Crane, the Golem mini-series and a lot of character designs for his other titles like Hybrid, Night & Fog, etc...
A few issues into Studio 407's titles Marvin Wynn of Studio EDGE contacted me to be his regular penciler for his flagship title: the EDGE. Been working with him ever since.
John Hunt found me during my stint with Studio 407 and Studio EDGE and hired me to do a couple of issues for his Faith titles and do some art-correction on some of his previous pages...
Lastly, I approached Alfred Paige for some work on his Pinpoint titles. He gave me the Face-Off title to work with and after producing half the comic and a few designs HE NEVER PAID ME. I'd like to think that most artists experience this kind of stuff.
...that, ladies and gentlemen, is my work background.
PERSONAL PROJECTS:
Currently, I am trying to capture some new techniques to merge it with my current art-style. Once I perfect it, I will be uploading new artworks. Along those lines, I am also practicing on modeling 25-60 mm models. Maybe get a gig with tabletop gaming companies, if not, it would still be a great addition to my skills.
