This summer, I will be attempting a new world record in endurance cycling by racing against time to bicycle through all 48 states in the continental U.S. in just 48 days. In addition, we are trying to raise $48,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for research in fighting blood cancers. The ride is dedicated to my uncle Alvin who passed away with Leukemia in high school at the age of 16.

The starting date for the trip will be Monday, July 20th, 2009 @ 8:00 a.m. with a goal finishing time before 8:00 a.m. on September 6, 2009. I will both start and finish in my hometown, Tipp City, OH. If all goes to plan, I will be recognized on September 23 by an adjudicator from Guinness World Records.

The trip is approximately 8100 miles in length (+ or - 100 miles) according to my current route and calculations. This means that I will have to average 165-170 miles per day to meet my goal. I will vary miles daily depending on road conditions and weather. My riding will most likely shift to night riding during August while I'm in the west.

To accompany me on this journey, Andrew O'Dom and Mehrtash Mostofi will follow close behind me in a small RV with an equipment trailer. This will help lighten my bike cargo weight and provide all of the facilities needed for this trip (food, shower, bedding). I'm am excited to have them with me on this trip. They will also assist in inventory of supplies and coordinating rest stops based on progress during the journey.
