about Gitzo
Gitzo was founded in France in 1917 by Arsène Gitzhoven, who produced cameras, cable releases, shutters (at a rate of 750 per day) and filmpack frames for the photographic industry until 1942, when the World War led to the company being temporarily dismantled. Production started again in 1944 and tripods were introduced to the Gitzo’s product range in the 1950’s. In 1960, Arsène Gitzhoven retired and his daughter, Yvonne Plieger, took over the running of the company with her husband, devoting themselves to the development of a wide range of top quality tripods and heads which were exported to more than 54 countries. In 1992, Gitzo became part of the Vitec Group – a multinational holding company specialized in supporting professional photographers, broadcasters and filmmakers. Gitzo’s unfailing standards have helped to maintain the company’s worldwide reputation for excellence in the photographic industry.

"My Gitzo carbon monopod is amazing. The finish quality is unparalleled. The product is so great that I was more excited about my monopod than my new $2k lens when I got them both for christmas!"

Mike Lutz says:
"I really love my Gitzos (1227LVL tripod and a 1568 monopod). I'm not much of an "extreme" photographer, but I am quite clumsy and and also lazy. A combination has lead to the death of many tripods (by destruction or disuse).
After a long search, Gitzo is the only tripod I've found that is both light enough that I carry with me all the time, but yet tough enough that carrying (and dragging, and dropping) hasn't destroyed it.
To this day my 1227 is rock solid and (because of its light weight and seemingly warm carbon fiber legs) feels almost magical every time I pick it up. It is at the same time both my most luxurious and my most functional piece of photographic equipment.
You have to play with one to really get a feel for it but Gitzos really are amazing and beautiful tripods, I highly recommend them."17th July, 2007

Harry De Zitter says:
"I bought my first Gitzo in 1971, which was also the year I turned professional photographer in Cape Town, South Africa.
At that time it was the only serious versatile tripod one could buy. It was the professional photographer's tripod of choice because it was well made and gave one solid support at all times.
Today Gitzo still remains the tripod of choice worldwide. Its sense of Form, Function and Finish is what sets it apart from the rest and it's very evident when one first lays eyes on any new Gitzo product.
A true thing of beauty. Gitzo is in a class of its own."17th July, 2007
