Giardini Pensili is a pioneering performing arts group. Directed by Roberto Paci Dalò, Giardini Pensili's work has a position all of its own in the international performing arts landscape and pop culture territories. It has developed an authentic theatrical language out of its background in sound and visual arts, which combines the spoken language with body, architectural elements, and an articulated work on acoustical and visual perception. Among their projects, there are theatre pieces like “Animalie”, live cinema works like “Blue Stories”, net projects like “Cosmologie”, artistic installations like “Teatro dell’Ascolto” (1995), radio and TV works, editorial projects.
Giardini Pensili is today a non-profit organization running a performing arts company, a media lab, a production house for media in the broadest sense. It is also a centre for collaborations and network activities: among the intellectuals, artists, musicians and actors that collaborated with the company in its 19 years long activity there are Giorgio Agamben, Olga Neuwirth, Philip Jeck, Predrag Matvejevic', David Moss, Maurizio Cattelan, Stalker, etc.
Artistic director of the company, Roberto Paci Dalò is composer, performer, director and visual artist. He's the artistic director of Velvet Factory - a space for the arts (Rimini). Born in Rimini in 1962, he studied music and visual arts in Fiesole and Ravenna. From 1997 to 2001 he taught Media Dramaturgy at the University of Siena as part of the degree course in Communication Sciences. At the moment he's collaborating with Università di Bologna, ISFI International School Fashion & Industry, UBS University of British Columbia and the Great Northerrn Way Campus in Vancouver.

L'ensemble teatrale Giardini Pensili è stato creato in Italia nel 1985 come progetto d'arte basato sulla collaborazione tra artisti, tecnici, teorici ed è diretto da Roberto Paci Dalò. Ha ricevuto la stima e il sostegno di artisti come John Cage e Aleksandr Sokurov; tra le collaborazioni Gabriele Frasca, Olga Neuwirth, Maurizio Cattelan, Kronos Quartet, Patrizio Esposito, David Moss, Scanner, Giorgio Agamben, Predrag Matvejevic', Mouse on Mars. Opere presentate in Europa, Medio Oriente, Russia, Americhe in luoghi quali Ars Electronica Linz, Budapest Autumn Festival, MaerzMusik Berlino, Wien Modern, Charlottenborg Copenhagen, Biennale di Venezia. Festival del film di Locarno, Museum Moderner Kunst Vienna, ZKM Karlsruhe, Western Front Vancouver, REC Festival Reggio Emilia. Parallelamente ai lavori teatrali e musicali, Giardini Pensili ha realizzato numerosi progetti radiofonici prodotti dalle principali radio europee e i suoi materiali drammaturgici sono spesso riconfigurati in installazioni interattive suono-video, film, web.
Roberto Paci Dalò è direttore artistico di Velvet Factory - space for the arts (Rimini), premio DAAD Berlino (1993-1994) e membro della Internationale Heiner Müller Gesellschaft di Berlino. Tra 1999 e 2001 ha creato e curato "Itaca - il pacoscenico elettronico del Teatro di Roma". Fa parte della direzione della casa editrice Cronopio. Ha insegnato all'Università di Siena e collabora con Università di Bologna, ISFI International School Fashion & Industry, UBC University of British Columbia e Great Northern Way Campus Vancouver.
