"N shows more of who he is then all the others yet still leaves me at the beginning of knowing him. soft and extreme."

    aha moment says:

"maybe none of us know how to look back in the mirror and see the reflection without shyness and hatred and resentment. our own vision is cloudy and untrue-noel's images are breathing, bloody veins a heartbeat away from every single molecule of reality. looking into his pictures is like looking into the void. he knows that real beauty is zooming in 100% into someone's pores and blowing them up to a million pixels to see their beautiful deformations, or their unearthly like flawlessness. his work has had enormous impact on the way i live my life because he showed me that even i had a soul, and beauty left inside me. his photos are almost unequivocally perfect-i've never seen anyone who can meld their own insides with the camera the way he does. a total inspiration, an obsession-seeing what he does, its like crawling in ecstasy with the worms. never stop. never stop."

    Marla R says:

""If one thing matters; everything matters".

Ruiz's work is so intimate and diverse it is hard for some to see how it all fits together. Abstract landscapes, self-portraiture, street documentary, all of his work is so disparate in subject, and yet speaks the same story; That there is beauty in the ugly, that the literal is often the least interesting subject, and that form follows subject.

Ruiz's expansive body of work has ongoing themes, and visual narratives that occur in the most unlikely images. Pretty flowers are everywhere. Blooming in sometimes abject circumstances, blood, shit, rain and sun pervade images, that can sometimes be shocking, and yet have an aching familiarity that makes one become much more aware of their own self.

Especially amazing is his ability to latch on to the eyes of others, and portray the largest section of our society with dignity and reverence. This also echoes in his self-portraits which, far from being indulgent, are so rapid and numerous they stop being about the individual and start speaking about the individual as construct, the artist as a combination of all things, ugly, embarrassing, dualistic.

I have been following Ruiz’s work for many years now and am constantly amazed by the freshness of his image and his commitment to seeing everything thing in this world as worth seeing and remembering."
