photo fiddler - View my most interesting photos on Flickriver

Welcome to my photostream. Its main purpose to to record natural features in areas where I live and travel. Happily, it has also helped me organize the way too many photos I have loved taking. Flickr has also provided a wealth of wonderful people whose images and words I enjoy.
Photography is a passion for me providing joy, enlightenment and satisfaction. Preferring to spend my photography time in the field exploring and appreciating moments with my subjects, rather than sitting at a computer, I try to make my final pictures in the camera and post-process very little. Knowing a camera well and how to get the most out of it is a challenge I enjoy and hence have too many cameras ;) Mostly I use simple point-and-shoots from my favourites, the Kodak Z990 and Nikon S6200, to the Nikon P7000. My DSLR is a Pentax most often used with a fun 70-300 mm macro lens.
In recent years I have had the opportunity to teach some local photography classes and find it a pleasure to see the participants' growing satisfaction with their photographic experiences. Photography allows unique personal expression which I hope everyone can enjoy at all stages of their lives. It makes everything more fun!!

Some thoughts I recommend to photographers:

- shoot to please yourself, unless you are doing professional work for a client... Don't worry about what others think.
- appreciate the shooting process. It makes so many moments more special and alive. Sometimes the process is more important than the product. Enjoy! It is a bit like life itself in that way.
- and never step backward without looking :)
