I'm a freelance writer and photographer who has published in New York Press, The New York Sun, New York Magazine, New York Blade, Gay City News, Spread Magazine, The Villager, Columbia Review, the Adobe Anthology, and other publications in print and online. I've published pieces on Sufjan Stevens, Todd Haynes, Genesis P-Orridge, Buck Angel, Crispin Glover, writer Daniel Mendelsohn, and other artists, musicians, and performers. I also write restaurant reviews, humorous essays, and anything else I can get into print. I'm waiting for my big moment, but meanwhile I'm working on a memoir which will chronicle the wild and crazy times of Geraldine "Gerry" Visco, in particular her arrival into the decadent inferno of New York City during the 1970s and 1980s.
In terms of credentials, I have an MS from Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism and an MFA from Columbia's School of the Arts, and a BA from Columbia's School of General Studies. I have an AAS from Fashion Institute of Technology. I attended the French Culinary Institute and am a certified yoga teacher in training from the Iyengar Institute in NYC. I've worked as an editor, actor, secretary, model, teacher, and currently work as an administrator at an institution of higher learning.
I'm available to take photographs and/or write about your event, whether it be a party, conference, meeting, performance, class, wedding, or funeral (hopefully not the latter, though!). My specialty is close-up, casual photographs reflecting the feeling of the moment including everyone attending the event -- man, woman, child, dog, cat, and whoever or whatever else is present. As you can tell from my subject matter, I enjoy events ranging from the traditional to the non-conventional.

Testimonials
Aaron Edwards says:
"I can't believe I've not already written a testimonial for Gerry Visco. Bottom Line - she is making a documentary, frame by frame, in a way that makes the viewer want to be in that film. Her eye, her ability to be at 3 places all at once, her knack for being surrounded by amazing people (amazing for being the best and the worst) is substantial. Although I came to know her as a photographer first, she is so very skilled in so many areas.
It is my pleasure and honor to call her a friend, mentor and muse."
jsf3456 says:
"What a brilliant post-structuralist critique of the phenonmenology of being! Every time I view these photographs, I'm enraptured in an existentential journey which penetrates the deepest depths of my soul.
In short, Gerry transcends time and space."
Robbie SV says:
"I don't know how she does it. Gerry seems to capture the essence of a person when she takes their picture. It's like you can see deep down into their soul. Her work is great. RSV
Up date-11/10/07-----Gerry can take a weird, really weird, picture and turn it into a work of art. Look at her pics of the Drag Queen, it's like you are standing there. Thank you for sharing your work with all of us RSV
Up date-1209-07--------Gerry has gone and done it again. Her new photos are, as usual, are great. As I have said before. She has taken something weird, and turned it into a work of Art. RSV
I have always wanted to go to a club in New York, well, thanks to
Gerry, now I have. Keep the great pictures, {works of Art} coming.
RSV"
