I used to be an artist, but now I play chess. My Chess is chasing the Presence in which all things are transformed. If you don't dig Dada I apologise for the inside jokes. Here are some for the tent evangelists, mystics and book-tired theologians... I'm the love child of Thomas Merton and Smith Wigglesworth, who was adopted by Joanna Macy and John H. Yoder, and raised by a wild pack of Catholic Worker/Anabaptists George Fox fans, who by a strange twist of this metaphorical family tree I helped give birth to. The Peace Tree Community. We are perfect fodder for projecting untrialed longings onto but I think you'll find it's more fullfiling to live your own life in life-giving ways rather than outsourcing it to a few (dirty, skanky, hippies) with dreadlocks (yes mum I am washing).
So instead of selling out, I just sold my ideals (and their disembodied empty promises that seduced me into bed, only to seek to kill me in my sleep). Apon waking I took my ideals to nearest hock-shop and then burnt the cash in case they return. It was then, on the footpath with my hand aflame, that I was struck across the face by the warth of a distant star. There I wept as a third generation black baptist preacher's words rose from the graveof his assaination, to be laughed out by a kookaburra, “the universe leans towards justice!” In those tears I dedicated myself to the One who teaches it shines on bastards like me and decent folk alike. To the justice revealed in him. That I might know him and some how I too might go with the grain of the universe instead of with the industrial military growth complex that goes against it. What else is there to do in the face of such sheer transforming grace but give my other cheek also. So this humble “Story”, so often hijacked by the Right who use it to destroy what the Spirit will transform, I've taken as my own. I receive as a gift. Jesus is less sexy than the ideals, but so, so beautiful. I love him in embarrassing, soppy and sentimental ways that is normally reserved for fundamentalists and make liberal uncomfortable. As Dostoyevsky said “Beauty will save the world, and there is none more beautiful than Christ Jesus.”...(the less sexy than ideals guy) who gives me the gratitude to face the pain of our world. Are you still reading this? Why? We've all been looking at screens for to long. Go outside. Relate to that which you walk on in ways that invoke from those who are suffering from an idealism that was shattered in unexpected cruxificition heckles like "tree huger".
