"Gon (or Gonçao, as I like to call him ...:) ) really paints with light....
He sees, processes, reinvents, creates... and expresses.
If there is an artist's definition, this one is he.
It's curious as the word "art" sometimes remains big for many, and other times, as in his case, remains short...
I don't like ass-kissing. He knows it. And this is not what I'm doing...
I have also a big respect to art and to the people who does it...
So, simply I will add that I'm glad to have known him in this "macro-world" that is Internet, and of being able to tell him between my friends. Because he's not only a good creative person.
All my admiration towards your person, Gon. As artist and as human being.
A hug, very very big...
And a big kiss.
We'll read us. ;)
==============================================================
No me gusta pelotear.
;)"17th August, 2010

"gon walks so adeptly between the profoundly deliciously surreal and simple etherealness. i am in deep admiration always; the way he sees earth and nature is like poetry & his portraits are ferocious and often exquisitely mystical. i will remain a lifelong admirer."

"I'm trying to keep this short to keep it concise.
Where I take pictures he creates works of art.
Where I copy existing reality he creates new ones.
His style is very bold, and I guess some people have problems with that
-- but that is often the case with works of art.
I don't understand all of his pictures, and sometimes (though not very often) I don't like them
-- nevertheless his pictures always get me thinking.
If you have an open mind you'll find a lot to think about on his "stream of consciousness" on flickr."30th August, 2008

"Since the first moment that I faced one of his photo, I realized that he was not just a photographer, but a great Artist, who loves experimenting art in all its forms, from painting and sculpture to photography.
Gon manages to amaze continuously even maintaining his unmistakable Style. His Artworks are a continuous discovery: let's stay to reflect on the messages, often provocative and enigmatic, announced through symbolism and through body language, let leave alone for a moment the rationality and travel with the imagination. Charm and mystery, mastery of light and strong sense of communication.
Simply sublime... thank you Gon! Your Artworks are a source of great inspiration!"19th July, 2008

"My dear friend Gon is an artist in every sense of the word; he has something to tell us. He makes us look beyond our comfort zone by sharing his life through his pictures and paintings, often confronting us with our own struggles and ultimately the struggles of mankind.
Not only is he an artist, he is also a gentle, kind-hearted, understanding and compassionate person with a wonderful sense of humour. I’m sure he also has some faults but I haven’t discovered them yet :-).

""Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". The title of the 1974 book of Robert M.Pirsig could also be the title of the Gon work.
The quoted book is about epistemology and the "Metaphysics of Quality", rationality and mysticism, romanticism and technic... Well, I've wrote many comments on the Gon photos and every time his work suggests to me quotations ranging from the classic art and literature to the modern and post-modern artistic production. Gon is an artist. As a painter he has been awarded by very important and international prizes and I guess that his deep sensibility could be found also in his photographic work. He looks at the world and at the others with a great love for life and any living being, he looks at himself as a zen-researcher of his own soul, wich is never separated by his material living body.
I guess that his work is a kind of embodied art.
Last but not least thing: Gon is not only clever and good, he has a great sense of humor and an ironic point of view coupled with a deep inner humanitarian attitude."4th March, 2008

"A brother once told me that true art is like tv.
You can put it on or off once you've looked at it.
Art will make you turn it back on if the maker considered the freedom of it's creation's viewer.
True craftsmen have that skill."8th December, 2007

"Gon, Gonza, Gonzalo...
Three names for the same wonderful, tender, great artist...a soul, a man, a human being you always want to walk into, talk to...about whatever it takes to be.... a living soul.
He's the Michael Angelo of our time, flying into our world and making it and our dreams beautiful...and come true.
Let him take you where ever you want to go....
Gon, Gonza, Gonzalo...."21st September, 2007

"It's already been said (countless times in the Flickr history and beyond it) that Gonzalo Benard is an artist of transcending proportions and that is true in it's most artistic meaning: he oversteps reality in his works of art and stretches the meaning of aesthetics far above our "what we are".
The soul he imprints in his works, the original creativity founded in his lifestyle, ah, an Artist by definition: He who creates from Nothing. Greatness incorporated.
Take your time at each one of his world-known masterpieces (photos and canvases)... and buy some promotional material to spread the word, goddamn you;)
Gon, you know I've admired your works and who you are from the start;) Take care, man;)"21st September, 2007

"Gon... It's difficult to say how I felt astonished by his life and his art.
By seeing his images, his works of art, his paintings... by reading his texts.. I could know that he is a special person. A life that cannot be said "normal", but a life that follows sensatios, art, soul, mind, colours, silence, music, breaths, emotions. And his art is full of all this. Wonderful and powerful! Hope one day to meet you ;)
Keep the good work on!"8th September, 2007

"Hmmmmmmmm! Where do I begin? Back in 1995 or 96. Gonzalo Benard came to Nepal. That time I was working in a Guest House runned by a monastery. He was staying at the Guest House very near to the Monastery and Great Stupa of Boudhanath. He used to come out once in a while and sit by the Garden. We had a nice garden there with chairs. So, as I began to see him everyday, we began to communicate more and chitto chat sometimes and have coffee or tea at the Garden sometimes. So that is how I know Gonzalo. Several years later he once again came to visit Nepal. I took Gonzalo to my hometown Helambu. Stayed with my grandparents. Visited Stupas and places in Helambu. Very powerful visit right Gonza. We also went to Melarepa Cave. And then he came back to Portugal. May be year or two later I came to the US and I still live in the US with my beautiful wife. I however got the greatest opportunity through Gonza's help to visit one of his International Exhibition in 2002 at Oiries, Portugal. Met many other artists, visited great places of Lisboa and Sintra and others. Collected great work of arts from Gonzalo as well. Thanks Gonza for everything.
Gonza is not only a friend but also a very brother to me. He is my Dharma (spirituality) brother. Did I miss anything to say? Oh wait. Tabai. hahaha
Someday soon we will meet again Gonza. The train ye?
