of course when it's feeling "good" you wanna hold on . . . but of course you can't . . . silly monkey, you should have realized by now that holding on changes the nature of things and your left with something quite different than what had inspired you in the first place . ..
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT :
"you" who have thousands and thousands of "favorites" . . . . that's right i'm talking to "you"... go back and take a look through all those images that you've collected with a tap of your star spewing wand, and what you will notice is that once you get a ways into the piles you won't remember ever having seen those pictures before .. . . kind of weird huh ? it's got your little star and maybe even a clever or heart felt comment from you to go along with it but it's as if you've never seen it before . . . . as far as you can remember it's like you've never been there . . . . i think thats kind of provocative, don't you ? it's like a little metaphor for life you might say . . . . now here's a tip . . . . THROW THEM THE FUCK OUT ...... that's right, one by one, just like the way you gathered them in the first place . . . . un do your little stamp of appreciation and approval and throw them the fuck out . . . . .. REALLY ...... one by one by one make them go bye bye . . . . . . even the ones you like and think are GOOD and IMPORTANT and MEANINGFUL even the ones that made you feel that you were a millimeter closer to getting laid by the person who made the image or was in the image . . . throw out those ones that made you feel like a discerning connoisseur, the esteemed CURATOR of some fuck ass group you started stay in touch old chap champaign, peanuts and all that crap . . . . throw out those ones that were your idea of payment for the one that someone gave you . . . that should clear a little bit of space ? then throw out the ones that you thought inspired you and that you imitated and used as a guide to make images that others seemed to approve of which made you feel important and giddy as if your images really did count in the scheme of things and that you really were up to something by jove !!! .. . GET RID OF THEM ! get rid of them like a mattress full of bed bugs . . . who cares if they're "GOOD" you don't remember most of them anyways .... and if you really think that seeing them made you a better photographer then your an idiot and should stop reading now ..... you really think it matters one iota if you toss them ? it doesn't . .. . you think it matters to the people you gave that precious little star to in the first place? OH PLEASE . . . they don't give a shit either and if they do you'll be of greater service to them by pulling your nose out of their ass than you were by sticking it up there in the first place.... OK . . . here's the pay off : by the time you've really whittled your collection way the fuck down to the point that it seems that to go any further would be a serious offense to the true heart of your aesthetic you will have nourished a strength in yourself that will be of great support to you when editing your own work, while going forward as a photographer your self .. . . and more importantly you will express that strength in other areas of your life as well . . . . . you will find it easier to get rid of all sorts of stuff that you've been hanging on to . . . . as you pitch image after image you will begin to experience greater clarity in all respects . . . . you will feel relief, release and start to enjoy a more "roomy/spacious" quality to your life . . . . AND . . . as if that weren't enough, a lot of what you've been taking so seriously will start to look pretty fucking silly ! what a breath of fresh air ! . .. . . try it . . . . stick with it .. . . you can't do it in an afternoon with a snap of your fingers . . . . it's gonna take some time and effort but i suggest that the effort will pay off . . . . . and needless to say don't take my word for it . . .. stop along the way . .. . notice how you're feeling as the shape of your edit reveals itself . . . . "collection" or "dispersion" you be the judge . .. . what feels more enlivening to you ?

"I have a struggling relationship with Gary Isaac’s photo stream. It’s like an addiction. On one hand he makes me wanna go running for my camera and start photographing everything I see. On the other, he makes me feel so tiny that I end up saying to myself ‘why should I bother’. It’s all due to the brilliance of Gary’s flawless portfolio. There’s no need for words to acknowledge how much beauty, humanity and mindfulness you’ll find in this place…go see for your self…"

"For sane critique, scroll down past this testimonial.
If one night you happen to be drunk/high/having a breakdown/ just feeling melancholic/sad/ecstatic -legal or illegal causes- , you have one of 2 options!
The first is to knock on this guy's door, hope he's not on some out of the moment road trip or sitting in some club chatting up the waitress ;), and that's he'll open the door, let you in or take you out for a nice chat that will leave you feeling you just met a blues musician meets a rock star meets the author of that book you snuck behind your parents' back when you were a teenager -no, he doesn't write for playboy, it's your parents who think books are work of the devil! "footloose anyone?!". Add some devilish angel in the recipe as well and you got him!
Point is, you'll love this guy if you happen to have 2 cents worth of brain in that box over your neck or even less of a soul!
Since a whole lot of us are not that privileged to do the previous, you can just click on that FF icon -IE sucks- , type flickr.com/garyisaacs in the address bar & let go of all the firewalls in your heart/brain!
He is as good as a cigarette & a cup of coffee in front of the window the morning after an "active" night!
P.S. If you are meeting him, pray that he'll take a camera along and decide you are worthy of a click 'cos he makes people look REALLY good!
P.P.S. Just to be accurate, if you are that depressed, you still have the option of slitting your throat but I don't want to get into details!"

"Mr Isaacs seems to understand intimately the skills of taking a photograph and the art of creating an image.
Anyone can take a photo, most people can even take a good photo, but in my mind creating a great image is about using our photographic tools and skills to alter the strict 'reality' a camera is capable of recording into something which more resembles how we feel about what we see, rather than just reproducing what it is we see.
That's what you'll find on this photstream. Damn high quality images. Stuff you can get your teeth into that'll actually make you think about what you are looking at, and what you feel about it. Images with moods and lives of their own.
I'm rambling now, and if you're still reading this then you've already wasted too much time not looking at Gary's work, so get started..."

"Gary's photos evoke senses and memories of another time, on alternate planes of the imagination. He has a divine gift for taking mundane day to day scenes and transcending them between pockets of reality and fantasy. He drenches his images in the warmth of the past, and yet pulls inspiration from the candor of present time. His work is graphic, yet wreaking of care and subtlety. His artistic range is matched only by his kindness : )"

"gary isaacs is one of my favorite photographer on Flickr. His esthetics is totally transcendent! My heart always fall to immeasurable depths between his works, and a lot of time are spent in silent concentration!I can't help throwing off my mind to experience the uncertainty of air in his world. There are such spaces that I can't think but feel.
I think what gary isaacs pursuit is the spiritual part of art! So I can always follow the extensiveness of it being with my emotion.Everytime,I just throw off my mind to experience his unusual odor which filled his works. Through those exclusive odor,I can perceive his profound soul, and I'm deeply affected by the inward part of it !
To my mind, gary isaacs is a great photographer as well as a great poet, because He expressed the depth of every image as if he wrote a great poem.No one would miss or fail to see. Such beauty exists here to all who would stop and feel. Do you see it? Just looks like the fluid time is frozen, and waiting to be born......"

"Gary Isaac is undoubtedly an exceptional artist, and if there was an option to fave the whole photostream, I would do so. I have mentioned to him before that his work belongs in an art gallery.
I have been grappling on how to describe his outstanding work. After reading the testimonials, I believe I finally got it - a master storyteller ! Photographs with soul.
And I must admit I was like Brett Walker, another superb artist, and I wanted to go get myself a pinhole camera and try to weave the same magic as Gary. Of course, it will never be, as his art and stories are his alone ..."

"I just had a look at Gary Isaac’s picture "The House That Burned" and thought: Welcome to the photostream of the ultimate storyteller on Flickr!
I will not attempt to comment on any technicalities. I honestly have no clue how he creates his images but I do know that they are pure art and that it will be a fantastic privilege to see him work...
Gary’s ability to charge his images emotionally is unsurpassed and their mood and atmosphere grab you at the moment you set eyes on them. His titles are kind of revelations (the kind that instantly thickens the plot and creates even more layers to the story). His compositions and his choice of light, shade, models and textures are breathtaking. His images are incredibly vivid and are bound to stay with you! I am sure that his cinematic talent will be noticed (sooner rather than later) as he already has more than enough images on his stream for at least a couple of cult films. While I am enjoying his presence on Flickr, I will be keeping an eye for my invitation to his first première."

"PURE ART .. . .. .. .. ..
'Gary isaacs' has a great eye to create art. I have been watching your portfolio; it has been a very rewarding experience. It has been very intense, therefore tiring. What impresses me it is that the style is appropriated to the message, idea, concept or whatever you want to convey. The toning of your photos emphasizes this quality. Congrats to you and to them for the wonderful body of work that you have presented here. The images transcend the subject and move into a highly personal area that's endlessly satisfying to look at. I can see your hand behind every one of these images. You seem to have a firm grasp on the indefinable quality that rises rote pictures to the level of pure artistry. The use of colors, textures, lighting and pose are spot on in the vast majority of images in your portfolio. Thanks... you are a great artist. I look forward to see more.
Thanx for so much inspiration
