I don't really know what to think about photography. I suppose it is a hobby, but my idea of it evolves perhaps daily. I don't think what I do is particularly good, but good is relative. I am now addicted to flikr since it provides a vehicle for people from all walks of life, differing interests, various nationalities, countervening political viewpoints, to express themselves in their own way. I have seen technical skill, graphic art, ideas, perspectives, techniques that have just blown me away. After checking out some contacts or surfing I will think, "I really need to do more BW street photography"! The next day I will be inspired to work with macro color. The thing that amazes me most is the wonderful difference of it all. How did people go through the thought process of deciding on a certain medium, style, approach to conveying an idea under one term that is supposed to encompass them all: photography?

Technical note:

For all of you geeks out there, like me, I presently shoot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and Canon EOS 60D with Canon 16-35, 24-105, and 70-200 EFL lenses, the Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 15-85 EFS and Sigma 30mm 1.4 lenses.

I also shoot with: a Sony NEX 5n with the 16mm E Pancake, 21mm Voigtlander f4 Color Skopar, 24mm Sony Zeiss f1.8, 35mm Voigtlander f1.2 Nokton, 50mm Voigtlander f1.1 Nokton, and the 18-55 E Kit lens; a Panasonic Lumix GH2 with the 7-14, 14-42, 14-45, 14-140 HD, 20mm 1.7 Pancake, 25mm f0.95 Voigtlander, and Leica DC 45mm 2.8 lens.

I always seem to have a Ricoh GRD IV on me that I may secretly love the best (most bang for the buck for sure). I swear to own one Ricoh camera or another for the rest of my life.

Honorable mention former cameras are: Bronica Range Finder (medium format), Canon 1D Mark IIN, 1D Mark III, 5D, 5D Mark II, several different Rebels, Leica MP, M6, M7 with Summilux and Summicron lenses, Nikon FM, F100, N80, Olympus EP-3, Pentax ME, Panasonic Lumix LX3, LX5, G1, G2, Fujifilm X100, Sony NEX 5, and Ricoh GRDIII.

I am sure I am forgetting some.

    goldsardine says:

"His images are pressured with insight. Each photograph is finely tuned, composed with great exactitude and skill. Through him we see the streets of Seoul, the hectic kitchens, the stairways, shops, and alleys, the back rooms. There the teapots, and Chinese scrolls, calligraphy brushes, paper fans, polished stones, and lighted temple candles, bright and brilliant masks. Each of these images is sewn with information that is of endless value to our understanding of the world. This is a deeply talented photographer."
