I started enjoying taking photos with my Sony DSC-T5 point-and-shoot camera in 2006. More recently I've been focussing on spherical panoramas and Escheresque spirals. I've been pretty happy with what it's possible to do with a point-and-shoot camera, but I started growing a list missing features (mainly: long exposures, multiple shots with same exposure, stabilizer). In 2007/02 I upgraded to DSLR. I'm now the happy owner of a Pentax K10D.
I like to learn about new tricks, and I appreciate the constructive feedback of people pointing out mistakes (or more genereally any sentence beginning with I'd have preferred...).
I'm also a bookcrosser, an occasional postcrosser, and a geocacher.
A rather large part of my stream consists in pictures from bookcrossing events. See for instance this book tree for the kind of fun we have.
I've been an exclusive GNU/Linux user for over 8 years now (to the point that I'm now completely lost when faced to a windows desktop) not only because that's the environement in which I'm the most productive, but also because I support the Free Software values. In that spirit, my pictures are also "free" (see below). I use The Gimp and have never used Photoshop.
Almost all my pictures are licenced under a Creative Commons license. You should be able to see which by clicking on the small icon at the bottom right of each photo page. This license lets you to reuse the picture provided it's attributed to its author. (For web pages, a backlink to the picture's page on flickr is enough of an attribution as far as I'm concerned, but most people usually add a "originally uploaded by gadl"-style credit. For printed documents, please use my full name: Alexandre Duret-Lutz.). So please do not bother asking me for permission to reuse the picture (unless you want to do something the license would not allow you to): you already have this permission.
Creative commons come in several flavors. See this page for explanations. I usually go with the "Attribution-ShareAlike License". But some of my pictures are based on Creative Commons pictures by others flickr users (duly attributed in the description), in which case the license might be different.
I'm Male and Single.

Testimonials
Manυ says:
"Always on the lookout for a new and creative way to entertain us all, Alexandre has one of those few photostreams that makes people click on every new photo, in case there is something more interesting and fun than what the thumbnail shows -and there always is!"
dmswart says:
"Alexandre's photos are consistently creative. The often keep me looking a little longer than the average photo, and often require a second or third visit.
He certainly has a wonderful style with a mathematical / geeky tilt (in a good way). And having his photo's in my contacts' stream has paid off again and again."
