I cant believe it's been a year since Joann passed away, seems like yesterday. There's a huge emptiness that I don't know what to do about nothing seems to help for any length of time, I guess that's it.......... time

I was the the primary caregiver for my terminally ill wife of 21 years. She passed away on 01/13/2009. I miss her more then words can express. Right now everything else seems trivial.

I didn't have much time to spend on my photography but find I do now. So I'm kinda picking up the pieces and hoping I can still take some decent photographs only time will tell. I sold all my film gear not so long ago thinking I 'd probably not get a chance to use it for some time, funny how things work out.

So that's about it

Well almost a bit more

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a visual person. When my parents moved back to Baltimore City after living in St Mary’s county for about 5 or 6 years. I would take a stack of paper and some pencils and walk for miles stopping when ever I found something interesting to sketch. I was probably 11 or 12 at the time. I would spend almost all of my spare time doing this. I love all the different neighborhoods Baltimore has. I always found something I wanted to draw. Then a friend of mine introduced me to photography. I used a Kodak brownie for a long time, and then finely managed to get my hands on a “real” camera a used 35mm Nikon.

I used that camera up until about 4 or 5 years ago when my wife became too ill for me to spend time away from home taking pictures. I held on to my gear thinking I’d use it again when she got better. This lasted about 3 years, I ended up selling all of it on eBay. I used some of the money to buy a Japanese Les Paul knock-off guitar made in the 70’s thinking I could stay at home and take care of Joann and teach myself how to play. I really didn’t get to much time to practice. Joann had been battling breast cancer since August of 1994 when she was 1st diagnosed. She had a partial mastectomy, chemo and radiation treatments and the cancer went into remission for close to 5 years. Then she had a relapse more chemo and radiation and another mastectomy. During this time she found the time and energy to start a pet rescue called “Heavens Gate Animal Rescue” she had over 100 volunteers and foster home at one time and found homes for over 4500 pets. She had to give this up about 5 years ago she was just too sick to do the day to day things that needed to be done to keep it going. In November of 2008 she found out that the cancer had spread to her liver she died January 13th 2009.

Sooooooo I started taking pictures emmm end of July beginning of September I think drawing and photography has always been a way to help me cope, escape get away from reality, seems its even more so now then ever. Any way I started getting some film gear and a digital camera and trying to see if I can take any decent photos again. Only time will tell
