Maurice was born in New York City, but has spent most of his life in Saugerties. After serving in the United States Navy, he spent two years working as a laborer in a cement plant. He graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a B.A. in 1968 and an M.A. in 1970.

Maurice was a New York State Assemblyman for the 101st District from 1975-1992. He has also proudly served as a member of the House of Representatives since 1992.

Maurice hopes that you will support him in his quest for a tenth term in 2010 by attending his fundraising events, rallies and, most importantly, giving him your vote on November 2nd. Your support will allow his voice to continue to be heard in Washington and enable him to help other progressive Democratic candidates get elected nationally, statewide and at home.
