Museum History
The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum was built starting in 1937 and opened in 1939 as a part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal Program and as a WPA project. Local artists and workers were hired to construct the building, whose land was donated by the city of Shreveport. The building still highlights many period design features, and is characterized by its distinctive round design and marble.
