I am retired and living one block from the Gulf of Mexico in the Destin, FL area. I found myself with a lot of free time on my hands, so I started a Free Portrait Project. I've done this for about two years now.

I have decided to "go pro" this spring (2011). Several years ago I operated a sideline portrait and wedding photography business in Stockbridge, GA. I had to set that aside for various reasons. I always enjoyed doing portraits, but never really enjoyed shooting weddings. Now, being retired and having a small income, I can devote all my photography efforts to the portrait side.

I set up a business website during Feb 2011 so that I can password protect client images and sell prints directly from the website. It is a SmugMug account and they use two of the best pro labs in the US for their prints. Their services are ideal for my business plan. Check it out at www.mrjeffsphotos.com.

I haven't devoted too much effort to doing stock photography for iStock, but I intend to concentrate more on that as well. iStock is very critical in approving images - images must be technically perfect to be accepted.

I am still the "official" staff photographer for Gateway Academy and I am very active with youth ministry at my church, Destiny Worship Center. I tell the kids that I am a "10 year old boy trapped in an aging body". In other words, I am still a kid at heart!

I still do the Free Portrait Project, except now I require a model release in exchange for my work and I limit the number of digital images I give to my free clients. I discuss this in "Pricing" on my business website.
