I began my interest in photography at an early age-- in the fourth grade I won first place in a 4-H photography contest locally, regionally and in the state for a photo that I inadvertently double exposed.

That is where it all began, my curiosity was peaked; the reason behind what occurred and the end product of what the image looked like. From there my parents allowed me to continue this peaked interest in photography by entering a summer photography course offered to young kids at a local college, O'More College of Design. I took photography in the mornings, and drawing in the afternoon. I cannot draw to this day, but what I learned in the mornings has stuck with me and fueled the fire for what I now do.

I was the girl with the camera, who blew through 35mm film like it was going out of style. College hit, and I was able to EXPERIENCE the DARKROOM. My love was found.

I completed my bachelor of art degree from Union majoring in Sociology, with a minor (though should have been a double major, if only it were even a major at my school) in photojournalism. Photo technician on campus for three years and student photographer for the school for two, I was quickly bumped from photo editor of our college's newspaper to the managing editor my final semester in school.

As a photojournalist I have been fortunate to cover hurricanes, flooding and disaster relief coverage in Florida, Louisiana and Texas, primarily while still as an undergrad.

I ventured off to graduate school at the University of Memphis seeking an MFA in art photography, after a year of schooling, moved then to Fort Worth, Texas where I spent yet another year as a photographer in the communications department at Southwestern Seminary.

Years after graduating with my bachelor's degree from school at Union University, I returned to teach art photography as an adjunct professor. I taught for two full years (7 semesters) and recently returned to Memphis to finish work on my MFA in photography. I have taken a hiatus from teaching to finish my masters, without dividing my attention of doing both full time.
