  "An amazing life, candidly and bravely shared here, considering all that she has gone through; from the difficult childhood in Omsk and the amazing trek across Siberia to Vladivostok to escape Stalin. Then the childhood malaria, the horrible radiation treatments in the basement of the U of I (you can still find her tape as she talks about it on NPR), and being told she'd never have children. Then the years with the vanishing prairie and the American Indians, the fiancee who turned out to be an east german spy (don't ask her about James J. Angleton if you value your eardrums), then marriage, the children she wasn't supposed to have. She's still listed as persona non grata in Luxembourg, of all places, and is listed in Wikipedia as having the most extensive collection of washed-rind cheese in the United States. She is the only I know who is listed in the acknowledgements on the film credits for "Bedazzled" (the Dudley Moore version) and "A Clockwork Orange" and "Beyond The Sea." She copes with an often debilitating agoraphobia and terrible allergic reactions vinyl, yet she still manages to Geocache, proofread for Project Gutenberg despite being 20/200 in one eye, and henpeck her youngest daughter, adult film star Christy Canyon."
