ART IN COMMUNITY

Alan’s Folk Art Revival promotes creative communities of people. Art Parties, at the Moore’s home, are creative outlets for artists and non-artists alike to express themselves in a communal context. These gatherings happen throughout the year on random weekends. All paint, brushes, and stuff to paint on are provided at the party. We often eat dinner together, listen to James Taylor on the record player, and dialogue about the beauty and trial of life.

RECYCLING

A quick note about recycling. 99% of what I paint on is junk that was on its way to a garbage heap. I even get some of my paint from the dump. Though I feel my art is very much earth friendly, the word that goes through my head as I create is "redemption". Webster (everyones favorite dictionary dude) would define redemption as: deliverance; rescue. Each piece of junk (I call it pre-art) I salvage and tweek and prep for a glossy coat of paint is an act of deliverance, it is a rescue. This act ultimately reminds me of our lives. Every human on earth no matter how comfortable or displaced, wealthy or in need, happy or depressed needs rescuing and deliverance. Someone can do that for them in ways deeper than can be imagined. That's one thing I think of when I paint.
