Luisterend, dus los van de gedrukte letter, besefte ik opeens hoe belangrijk het beeld is en hoe ondergeschikt de taal: de taal dient het beeld. Dat behoedt voor verstarring en abstractie. Het beeld is natuurlijk alleen met het juiste woord te treffen, dat wel.
Wat is een gedicht toch een raadselachtig iets: het is taal, het is beeld en het zegt iets wat noch met de taalvorm, noch met het beeld helemaal samenvalt. Omdat het ook een inzicht, een gevoel, een besef is. -- C. O. Jellema Een web van dromen
