T H U M B N A I L S

I'm in my sixties and can be grumpy (blame it on the arthritis). I feed the birds and share my home with two cats. I’m trying to grow old disgracefully, but it gets tiring. I wear purple, sometimes with a red hat. I write, paint, draw, and let the ironing pile up until there's nothing left to wear. My neighbours probably think I'm eccentric because of my habit of wandering around the garden with my camera in my pyjamas and dressing gown, before breakfast. First things first!

This is my art blog - margaretnelson.co.uk.

My son is Natmandu. I travel vicariously through him. He's been busy in Cambodia at the Sangkheum Center for Children, but he's back in the UK for now. You can donate money to support the centre's work through Just Giving.

I'm a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, and I've got a cloud blog. I'm an almost retired Humanist Celebrant who's conducted hundreds of funerals, plus a few weddings and baby-namings, and I've got a blog about death from a Humanist perspective. Some time soon, I'll write a book about the subject.

I maintain the website for Suffolk Humanists & Secularists, a group of atheists in the UK.

If you add me as a contact, that's nice, but don't be upset if I don't add you to my list. I have enough trouble keeping track of the ones I've got. And if you invite me to join a group, don't be surprised if I decline - so much to do, so little time.

I'm admin of a group called The World at Work - please ask for an invitation if you'd like to join us, but read the rules first.

I never join groups that use animated or other icons in comments, like all those 'award' groups, so please don't ask. Comments with flashy stuff in them will be deleted. This is the sort of thing I mean! Aaaargh! However good your photos, if you join one of those damn groups and attract masses of those non-comments with bells on, afraid I won't be adding to them, sorry.

However brilliant your photo, I don't comment on any with bloody great watermarks on them; they just get in the way! If you're that worried about people stealing your pictures, don't post them on Flickr.

You can find me at Blipfoto more often than Flickr these days. That's because I like its simple principles and clutter-free format, and there are some lovely people over there (though my Flickr friends are lovely too).

    Natmandu says:

"Margaret's photos show a real intimacy with the subject, be it animal, vegetable or mineral - she's slowly but surely collecting everything she sees, but not in a cold scientific way - there's a real affection for the subject.

OK, I know her so I know what she's like - she is my mum - but I'm very proud of how she's come along as a photographer. Some of her pictures are the equals of anything professional I've ever seen, and I'm often jealous of what she's managed to do!

She's also showing me what home looks like while I'm away travelling, which when I'm feeling low is a real life-saver."
