The Big Trip starts on April 15.

The blog is (just about) up and running at www.bogworms.com, and will grow beyond all reasonable control over whatever length of time we finally spend on the road.

I've dabbled in photography very superficially for about five or six years. I have to say Flickr has been a huge inspiration, because I can't think of anything better to do with a beautiful or interesting photo I've taken than to show it to someone (or lots of someones) - I guess I've never outgrown show-and-tell.

I believe the digital era has caused a huge revolution in photography in a number of ways.
The most obvious is the way that, for the majority of people, it has obviated film costs. Like any skill, practice (as long as it's conscientious and critical) is the key to improvement. Digital photography makes huge amounts of practice more affordable than it's ever been.
Flickr's part in the revolution is the way in which it brings so much good photography to the masses. Of course, there's been an explosion in crap (insofar as crap can be an objective term) pictures online. But there's plenty of room on the Web for everyone to practice.

I think, or at least hope, that the massive sensory input I soak up from Flickr has helped improve my pictures - although I still have a lot of improving to do - and will continue to do so.

I hope you find something you like among my pictures. Comments and advice are always welcome.

Finally, something I've noticed - one of the inestimable benefits of photography - is that you start looking at the world in a different way. And anything that enables you to see more beauty in more places has got to be good.
