I bought my first SLR camera ± 20 years ago after returning from my first trip to Africa. After having visited spectacular national parks in Kenya - trying to shoot the famous big five - I came home and realised that all the elephants I shot with my 35 mm camera looked like warthogs, lions like the cat next door and the flamingo´s like the birds in the tree in front of my appartment. I realized that I needed a serious camera and a big lens !

A few years ago I bought my first digital camera, a Canon 300D. Shortly after it had been stolen during a trip to Italy the 300D was replaced by a Canon 20D and I added the ultimate toy-for-boys : a Canon EF 100-400 IS USM lens. In 2009 the 20D has been replaced by a 5D Mark II.

Twenty years ago I fell in love with Africa and I have returned many times for work and leisure, always with a camera in my bag. Now, as a Dutch dairy trader, I travel frequently to sub sahara Africa,.

I particularly like positive travel photography and aim for smiles, colourful people and an occasional overloaded truck. News about Africa that reaches the western world is often negative while my impression of this wonderful continent is very positive. I hope my pictures show a bit of this. Just go there !
