Welcome to my profile page here on Flickr!

I have enjoyed taking pictures since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and was given my first camera at the age of 6. The albums full of blurry shots of what are believed to be animals and flowers are still sitting on my bookshelves gathering dust. It was always my ambition to be a photographer as I grew up and I used to terrorise family and friends with my camera at any opportunity, until they got fed up and I had to resort to photographing my guinnea pig!

I was lucky enough to get some valuable work experience with an award winning photographic studio in my teens, I learned a lot from that and was looking to develop and train within that environment until the lure of 'a proper job' called me away and the camera got relegated to the sidelines once more.

The interest has always been there, and every now and again the camera would resurface and I would take the occasional 'picture' in amongst the snaps. However, thankfully recently the skill has become a little more honed and the results a little more consistant; thanks primarily to the very patient tutoring and honest critique of my good friend PC_Stumpy! who tolerates me tagging along with him up hill and down dale on photo expeditions, usually lagging miles behind him, moaning about the steep inclines that he seems to like to walk up, or snapping over his shoulder and stealing his shots. Thanks to him I am understanding more about what makes a decent picture, understanding the camera, the process and getting fitter to boot! You can see quite clearly the point in my photostream where his mentoring started, and for that.. I am indebted to him.

I am the proud owner of a Nikon D300s, and a variety of lenses, a Nikon 16-85mm f4.5+ which i use as my day to day lens, a nikon 50mm f1.8 prime, a sigma 70-300mm dg macro and a sigma 50mm macro. Filters for a Cokin P system, spare battery, remote cord, sd card, spirit level, various microfibre cleaning cloths, giotto pro tripod and or a manfrotto monopod, compass (just in case), first aid kit, waterproofs, thermals, kendal mintcake and a slightly leaky thermos flask which is all lugged about in a loweprowe mini trekker, I am soon going to have to get a bigger bag, a bigger car and a bigger back!

I am enjoying getting out there in the fresh air, spotting new species of wildlife such as long necked sheep, laughing and enjoying sharing the sights with someone whilst taking Landscape pics, which are my first love, along with macro shots, portraits, still life, flowers, animals and in fact... anything that involves clicking the shutter button really! My name is Rachel - and i am a flickr'aholic.

Life is good.

All pics on this stream are Copyright - Rachel Slater. It should go without saying, but apparently it doesn't; So thanks to a recent plagiarist who caused me enormous problems, both personally and proffesionally, i feel i need to clarify in case there is a repeat of the confusion: ALL of the photographs on this stream are taken by myself, and they are all subject to copyright, i hold all of the original copies.

I have sadly had to disable downloading and the ability to view all sizes on here, thanks to the person who stole many of my pictures from this stream, removed my signature and claimed them as their own work, and displayed them on another website, with their own inaccurate and fabricated descriptions of how and where they were taken, (the pics stolen and displayed included pics of my children, which was very frightening and disturbing and is what has caused me to react with such defensiveness)

Please do not: download, copy, amend or alter in any way, blog, print, reproduce, or use my photos without my permission.
I will usually happily give this permission to people for many reasons, but it is courteous to ask. If you do want to use my pictures for anything, or would like to order prints, copies or similar, then please do feel free to contact me :)
Thank you

I also have been dabbling in some more 'adult' photography, to expand my skills and portfolio, this porfolio does contain shots of a more sexual nature, including some semi-nude, fetish and glamour/topless shots - if you are not easily offended and are over the age of 18 in the UK and considered a legal adult in any other country, then please feel free to check them out here - www.flickr.com/photos/fen_adult/

"Fen is a good friend and Photo companion.
She got me into flickr and gave me an outlet for my photographs. She encourages me to take more and laughs at and with me: she gets up at un-godly hours and is patient whilst I muck about with an antique called film. She gave me something to do rather than just work and worry, which I was doing a lot
I, for my part, am to blame for Fen splashing out on an SLR and new lens. ( I kept nagging).
Fen has an eye for a shot and a natural shutter finger. Every shot she takes improves on the last. Her enthusiasm is catching.
She is a Good friend and photo companion.(sic)

    Update 2011.
Fen and I have been shooting together now for a number of years and in that time her work has improved with every shot. She has been published, has sold some of her work and has even received commissions.
She is a talented and prolific photographer and none of it is my fault!"

"Although we haven't got round to meeting yet (Despite living not too far from eachother) it's always nice to have a quick text chat with Fen and I consider her to be a valuable friend. She's always interested if I text her from the middle of nowhere to tell her what I'm photographing!

Fen's one of those people with an infectious enthusiasm for photography and is always there to give positive feedback on your shots and encourage you to take pictures as well as producing some stunning shots on her photostream.

I value Fen's opinion on my shots and I certainly consider it a good photograph if there's a comment from her on it. :)"
