About Feliciano Imaging / Mark Feliciano  

My name is Mark Feliciano and ever since I first stepped into a darkroom, still in my early teens and stood watching as the magic images formed on the papers which floated in the black, white and red plastic trays, I have been in love with the process of image making. From the first lift of the camera to my eye, to the final print sliding out of my Epson printer, the entire process captures me as much as I try to capture it.

I don't consider myself to be a strict photographer in this sense: I'm not out to simply capture on a silicon chip a pure or exact representation of a scene I have witnessed. Instead, when I click the shutter I think I am following the words of someone who impacted me and an entire generation of would be imagers: the master Ansel Adams.

AA was the first person I ever heard use the term "pre–visualizing" or, seeing a scene in the minds eye not simply as the scene is, but as it could be–as I imagined it might be. In that vain, much of my photography is not mere image "taking" as it is image "making". For me, software has replaced the plastic, stop bath, dodge and burning tools of the darkroom and I am merely continuing what I began there: (only with much better and more flexible tools) the pursuit of the realization of my initial vision of a particular scene.

I began with a Nikon F2 in the early 70's and though I am still an avid Nikon guy today, for me it's not about the tools, it's about vision, and craft.
