A jump chord is a usually high pitched loud note at a surprising moment in a movie. The intent is to throw a quick loud sharp sound at the audience when the killer can be seen behind the heroine as she slowly closes the door. The sound works in synthesis with the image to create a reaction in the viewer. The first time I saw Feightner’s artwork it hit me like one of those moments in a horror movie. I was stunned, shocked, a little disgusted, and I liked it.
What is art exactly? Well to me art is something that when you experience it you are invoked to feel. Art is the song that makes you sad, the movie that makes you laugh, and the story that inspires you. Anything that was created by someone, and when experiencing it, a reaction is invoked. Be it good or bad the response is the effect, the art the cause. Good art anyways.
Feightner has a unique ability to reach into very dark places of the mind/soul/heart and shine an electric light upon the things that dwell there. We see in his art the reflections of a world beneath the surface. His art poses a question to its audience and it’s not always one you want to answer. Whether it’s the connotations of religion turned commercialistic, or a dark desire you barley even acknowledge in your heart of hearts, we all feel these things. We all fear these things. Feightner seems to have a tap on the raw emotion just below our own skin. His art is like the voice inside your head, not really pushing you to do or not do something you might regret, but just there to tap you on the shoulder and let you know it’s really happening.
There is a running joke that an artist’s work is more appreciated when he’s dead. What about an artist that shows us we are all dying every moment we live? This is the catharsis of Feightner’s art. Beauty in the darkness, happiness in the sorrow, joy in the pain. Acknowledgments, one pixel at a time, reminding us the definition of mortality. If a picture really is worth a thousand words then I say enjoy the manifesto that follows. As you look at these images in a dark room and there’s an odd sound from the next room do not be afraid. Wait for the jump chord. (Written by Mike Foss)
On this page you will find images from several of my projects, they are different styles that are themed to fit specific guidelines that I have developed through focused techniques and refined process. The individual pieces will be labled according to the genre i've created.
They are as follows:
1. Surreal Manga: In this series I transform the photographs to have an anime presence and feel, using vivid color and delicate blending of shading and texture.
2. Broken Body Melancholy: This series depicts images of the human body in a matter that could widely be considered morbid. It is my intent to give the viewer the oppurtunity to witness the workings of ones own mind in the sense that while one may find it offensive another can interpret beauty.
3. Hypnotic Macabre: This is a dark abstract series. I find it interesting that as I speak with different people about the same pieces. The reactions and interpretations are often very inconsistant and seldom does a viewer see my intentions through the composition.
This page is setup to show my versatility as an artist and these are only a few of my many styles that were developed by applying organic and traditional painting techniques on a digital medium.
Thank you and Enjoy.
