Organizer of the F/Stop Photography Festival is the ZZF, which was founded in 2006 by 15 curators; among them designers, authorities on subjects of art and experts of photography.
The work and purpose of the non-profit organisation aim at implementing and establishing a Center for Contemporary Photography (ZZF), which focuses on examining and exhibiting the latest developments in the field of photography.
Since 2007 the ZZF organizes the annual International Festival of Photography F/Stop which presents curated and themed exhibtions, solo shows, portfolios and symposiums. All this takes place in changing settings and spaces, which are prepared each year by undergoing great efforts and extensive work of renovation in order to present the current exhibition.

Through exhibitions, events and publications, we intent to address the public and to reveal an approach to understanding contemporary photography.

The festival is focused on the current works of rising as well as of established artists who express themselves solely in the field of artistic photography. Their pieces of art are put into context regarding a theme and also in regard to an international positioning. Furthermore, the festival emphasizes the equality of the different generation, and thereby it basically points at the fusion of two generations with equal chances and perspectives. For many years, these two generations have been kept apart in the world of art. The festival wants to break up this rigid circumstance and create awareness among the audience and the artists for the respective generation.

The International Festival of Photography F/Stop is split into three core themes:

1. A large main exhibition which is curated in regard to a special subject/ theme.
2. Invited Shows – international artists and curators are invited to be guest at F/Stop
3. Contest

During the past three years, F/Stop was able to enthuse more than 15.000 visitors that had come to see almost 50 exhibitions which all took place in unusual and mostly undiscovered locations. These places were exceptional settings for presenting current contemporary photography from all over the world.

Besides the festival, the first international symposium on „Curating Photography – About the Handling of Contemporary Photogrpahy in Art Exhibitions“ took place in July of 2009.
