Credo

I believe, as did the ancient Greeks and Romans, that the female form is the embodiment of the divine. It is with this classical attitude that I photograph a woman's body. All of my models are collaborative artists and our mutual empathy is the fertile ground from which images of beauty and spirit may rise. Photography is my way of feeling, touching, loving, and revealing the Goddess within them.

Pet Peeve - Award Icons

Awards are icons that needlessly clutter up an artist's comment thread. They are loud, rude, and distracting. I am always very pleased when fellow artists take the time to comment, fave, or invite an image to a group but I've never understood the mentality behind awards.

Are we as artists supposed to be honored to receive an intrusive icon with canned hyperbolic praise? Perhaps there is a yearly awards ceremony to which we can look forward. Or do the heads of the groups disseminating these awards send us cash and prizes at some future date? I can't imagine any person with an ounce of creativity flowing through their veins who would treasure these senseless wastes of space.

Even more laughable are those award groups who demand that you award 2, 3, or more other images for every image you post. Some even claim to have "sweepers" that catch any violators of this sacred stipulation and remove their images from the group. This may serve as a deterrent to those who would indiscriminately post their mediocrity but at the same time encourages the mindless bestowing of awards.

End of rant.

The Cosmic Dance

The world is a universe of tensions seeking to be resolved - a universe of wants and haves - of haves and have-nots. Do we have a choice in the matter? No. We have no choice but to choose. So ultimately we have no choice. Thus we have no choice but to be allured by something even if that something is the thought of not choosing. If we’re going to play this cosmic game to win (and no one ever wants to lose because if you want to lose then losing is winning) then it would be useful to know what attracts us . Not what we think we SHOULD be attracted to but that which in reality has for us a sympathetic resonance. Or as was said in the 60’s: “What turns you on man”. Because if you’re not on you’re off. And if Nothing turns you on then you’re in luck. You can give up and just be with (or be) whatever appears around you and then everything turns you on. As the Beatles sang: “Oh that magic feeling . . . nowhere to go”. You’re already there and you are that.

What a gift. Nothing to prove. No one to impress. The world is crazy and beautiful – have you noticed? There is always Nothing to answer to because without Nothing there can’t be Everything or Anything. And since Nothing is the source of all creation then that’s the place from which we create. Creation is happening everywhere all the time but we’re wired to value some things more than others so we define that which is creative and that which isn’t. And that too is part of the cosmic tension – resolution dance. Nothing wants to be Something - Something wants to be Nothing.

Let’s dance.
