17 Random things about me.....

1. If I had been born a male, I would have become a firefighter.

2. Unlike some photographers who picked up a camera at age one and never put it down to become GREAT photographers......I got my first camera freshman year of High school and didn't consider wanting to do photography as an actual job until my junior year. IN FACT I remember the first time I told my dad I wanted to become a professional photographer and he said ,"there is no money in that." That didn't stop my love for it and my want to pursue it.

3. I believe EVERYTHING happens for a reason. I have annoyed the hell out of some people with that mantra, but it is true for me. I don't waste my time regretting things that have happened to me and wonder why it happened that way.

4. The only grandparent I have never met was my dad's father. I feel it is unfortunate because he and I would have been good friends. He loved camping and taking pictures up in the mountains. I own and have used the same old Pentax 35 mm camera that he used. I guess you could say that is the closest we have ever been.

5. Second to photography as an art, I love to paint. Currently I am waiting for my 'studio' to be freed up so I can begin the dozens of projects I have in mind to paint. One in particular is a giant painting of a purple orchid on a black background for my room.

6. Speaking of orchids, they are my favorite flower. They are so delicate and unique with so many types and species. They are difficult to maintain, they flower for months on end, yet only blossom one a year.

7. I am the Comfort Queen. I love soft things, blankets, pillows, warmth, etc. When I was little, I could always be found with two blankets in my hands cuddled up to my face. My name when I was little, by my mom was, Rachel Two Blankets.

8. I love the color purple. Purple, Purple, Purple.

9. I have always wanted to write a novel. I used to write back in high school. Yet I have always struggled with coming up with a complete plot. I would write now, but I find it so time consuming.

10. I am shy. Always have been and always will. This includes being quiet. If I am unsure of something I am saying, I talk quiet. Not very much for attention either and I don't take compliments gleaming. This doesn't mean I have a low self esteem, I just am humble I guess.

11. I am a very dark person in nature. No I am not a murderer...lol. I have a moon in Scorpio and for you none astrology buffs, this means I am very dark and lonely in nature (hence the shyness) and very emotional. I am perfectly fine being alone, I like dark and scary things, and I can handle negative things. Other parts of my signs and planets make me level out so I am not a completely hopeless and melancholy goth person.

12. When I was growing up I wanted to be either a flight for life nurse or a vet. I soon learned when I was little I had a weak stomach and didn't think I could handle blood and guts. As I have gotten older, I am fine with blood and guts and wouldn't mind being a flight for life nurse again. Now I realize I would have a hard time 'hurting' people, even if it was to help them.

13. After several years being jaded by people (from middle school to early college years), I have trust issues. I only trust people when I in my own mind feel comfortable with trusting them. After that, I will be the best friend you know.

14. My favorite dog and the one I want to own is a German Shepherd. They are so beautiful, smart, can be trained to be disciplined, and will protect. I miss you Liebchen :( (Update: I have a beautiful baby girl named Bella!!!)

15. I am my father's daughter. We are both middle children, I have the same sense of humor and general personality that he does, and I am tall because of him.

16. I am deathly afraid of being struck by lightning (or being electrocuted). Even if I am running to the car or just having to be outside during a thunderstorm, I feel like every moment is my last.

17. Up until a few years ago, I have always seen my parents as my parents. At one point I looked through an old scrapbook they had put together when they met in college and when they were dating. I saw them in a different light, as 2 people who look so young and happy and beautiful/handsome and so in love. It is amazing to see my parents as they were before they dedicated their life and love for each other to another human being that they brought into the world together (my brother, me and my sister).
