I was born and raised in the United States… with visits to India once every few years. I have through an immensely privileged life been given the opportunity to serve others. Some people say the work I have been doing is noble. I don’t consider it noble; I consider it my responsibility for being given all these gifts and opportunities in life. Never have I had to worry about going hungry—when or if I would receive food, nor medicine or if I could afford to see a doctor if I was sick. Never did I concern myself with where the money would come from for a new pair of shoes or shirt. This was the situation I was born into, unlimited free access to education and some of the best universities in the world. It has been through my many travels around the world that I have realized it is my responsibility to share and bring to others who are less materially fortunate the same opportunities that I was blessed to have.
I currently reside in Washington, D.C. as a social worker, peace educator, author, spoken word poet, and visual artist. I am the executive director of One Common Unity, a non-profit organization I co-founded in the year 2000. I also teach 2 classes called “Alternatives to Violence,” in DC's largest public high school. In these classes we learn why it is important to treat everyone the same. We call it diversity building, learning to accept those who may be different than you and engage the world with compassion and empathy.
