  "ian offers to the collective photographic community what few others can or will - a fresh, new vision. by this i mean he takes what most of us would consider ordinary objects, scenes, people - opportunities most of us would squander because they don't immediately 'shock' us - and transforms them into something interesting, novel, and even surreal. his portraits are a good example of this. the faces gaze back and seem to question us, the viewer; they challenge us to decipher them. and i very much like the way ian plays with light itself. he has an uncanny ability to mold and distort the available light, whether by way of his compositions at the scene or later in the computer, and bring out nuances that we seldom expect.
