New Mexico, by Eric Hart. My first (self-published) book, with seventy of my photographs from New Mexico. It's pretty cool.
You can find prints of my photographs at erichart.imagekind.com/
I am either a photographer who makes a living as a carpenter, or a carpenter who dabbles in photography, living in New York City. I carpenter in the world of theatre, which has brought me to the Santa Fe Opera for several summers, as well as a winter in Louisville, Kentucky. I have a blog about props.
Previous to that, I attempted grad school at Ohio University for Theatre Production Design, but abandoned that line of work. Before that, I had spent a few years around Pennsylvania, where I grew up, working at Hersheypark, Lafayette College, and the Walnut St Theatre in Philadelphia.
My photos here start mainly in 2004, when I got a Fujifilm s7000, my "first" camera. I now shoot with a Nikon D50. I got a nutload of photos up here, so if you feel daunted, my your favs set is a good place to start and branch off into other sets that catch your eye.
I also occasionally shoot with a Holga or a Polaroid.
In addition to a few local shows and competitions, I've been published in JPG Magazine.
People say I have a good "eye".
My Fuji s7000 wasn't necessarily my first camera, not even my first digital camera. Before that, I took most of my pictures on disposables. I've also used the digital camera portion of my camcorder for a few shots. As a kid, I mainly played around with my Dad's Canon Xapshot - technically, it was an "analog video still" camera, as opposed to digital, but it stored pictures on little 2" floppy discs. But they became digital when I captured them to my Amiga. Talk about future retro.

Testimonials
hartboy says:
"Eric didn't grow up on a farm! What a liar! And he doesn't take pictures of people cause he's a nervous nelly! I wish Eric would take pictures of Antarctica so he'd be in Antarctica and I could take his Spiderman and Spectacular Spiderman Comics."
hellophotokitty says:
"I've seen Eric's work transform into many strange and wonderful things - strange, haunting, serene, delicate, and always awe-inspiring, moving me deeply. His gift is his sensitivity, being able to get just underneath the surface of our 3 dimensional world; each photo becomes a new entity - reborn more vibrant and more beautiful than before.
Thank you Eric for sharing your eyes with us - inviting us to see again for the very first time."
SF buckaroo says:
"Welcome to eqqman's world. EQQman, not eggman-- that's some other dude.
Eqqman not only has a unique, highly stylized, vision to share-- he's also funny & self-effacing like nobody else on flickr. With his talent and charm, he has every reason to be a rich, pompous ass. But he's chosen the less-trammeled path, the one that leads this way and that (with the help of the occasional beer & cigarette).
If you look carefully through eqqman's stream, you will see a serious artist with a compassionate political point of view. The basic ingredients of beauty, politics, & dry self-effacing humor keep eqqman's stream both entertaining and enlightening."
kucharo says:
"He's a contender. Definitely one of the best new guys to come along since...oh, late February. An excellent eye for the dark, the surreal and the shadows."
