  "Que dire que dire... un talent fou, quelque chose de fluide et d'évident, aucunement laborieux, mêlé à une gaieté et une joie quelques fois enfantines et très communicatives. Puis il y a le choix des sujets, toujours ciselés au niveau humain... un Levi-Strauss avec un Leica, un amoureux des gens, qui pose un regard tendre et lucide sur une humanité qui devient allégorie à chaque déclenchement. Oui, il y a un peu de ça, beaucoup des personnes sur lesquelles Emmanuel a posé son regard, semblent soudainement se transformer en archétypes, symboles d'un monde bien plus vaste qui les dépasse à l'instant de la prise de vue. Et puis... comme on dit... "les gars bien, si on a gardé son instinct, ça se sent quand on les rencontre" ;)

  Non seulement pour l'intérêt que représentent ces coins du monde souvent reculés et peu décrits (c'est pourquoi j'aimerais en voir davantage),
  ... mais aussi pour l'humanisme qui se dégage de ces photos : des bleds mornes et enneigés mais si parlants, des visages si expressifs, tant d'émotions visibles, tant d'histoires racontées, tous ces clichés trahissant la tendresse dans le regard du photographe.
  Magnifique, plus que du simple reportage !"

  Il connaît parfaitement l'art photographique et ses règles de composition. Il peut donc se permettre de transgresser ces dernières de temps à autre. Mais toujours il y a cette rigueur dans le travail. Une rigueur qui côtoie une vision du monde personnelle, pleine de chaleur et de couleurs... les couleurs émotives qui jaillissent d'un noir et blanc à la fois simple et superbe.
  
  Regardez attentivement ses clichés et vous y découvrirez la lumière d'un art transcendé par un regard de haute tendresse. On retrouve chez lui la grandeur de la simplicité et de nombreux photographes devraient non pas s'inspirer de son oeuvre qui lui est propre, mais y respirer la quintessence d'un art si humain et si proche de la sobriété...
  
  À la différence de nombreux photographes actuels, on ne décèle chez Emmanuel Smague aucune « esbrouffe », aucun désir d'en remettre une couche... on ne découvre chez lui qu'une certaine forme de vérité où l'art et l'homme sont réunis..."
