Edward McMillan-Scott is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Yorkshire & the Humber, UK and was elected a Vice-President of the European Parliament in 2004, 2007 and 2009 -. His responsibilities include democracy and human rights.
He was first elected as a Yorkshire MEP in 1984. He was leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament 1997 - 2001.
After a dispute with David Cameron over his choice of new allies in the EU in 2009, McMillan-Scott left the Conservative Party in March 2010 and joined the Liberal Democrats.
He joined the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (ALDE) group in May 2010 but continues to sit as an independent Vice-President.
