As an amateur photographer I am particularly interested in photographing the village of Elora Ontario Canada. This beautiful village on the Grand River and Elora Gorge was founded in 1832 and was once a bustling mill town. Many beautiful buildings along the river, constructed from limestone from the local Elora Quarry, such as the 5-storey grist mill, were restored in the 1970s and now house an inn and specialty shops, galleries, and eateries.

Elora has always attracted artists - A.J Casson of Canada's Group of Seven said it was Ontario's most beautiful village and that he couldn't stop painting it. Today Elora attracts many visitors, artists, architects, musicians, writers, photographers, chefs - some have come to live here, to set up unique shops, galleries, restaurants, inns and B&Bs, and festivals.

Many photographers on Flickr have posted beautiful nature shots of the Elora Gorge and the Grand River running past Elora's bridges, the limestone buildings on Mill Street, and along the Elora Mill, now an inn. Some have posted streetscapes of Mill Street and Metcalfe Street with some of their unique shops and signs. I have posted quite a few of my photos of the Elora Mews on Mill Street West, both for the historical interest and architectural features of the property and the special appeal of the individual shops. Mundell Furniture Factory was housed on this property until a fire in 1953. In 1978 a small shopping centre was built within the remaining stone buildings and walls, set around a courtyard. The stone walls around the courtyard are a characteristic landmark on Mill Street and each of the shops and galleries are quite unique, like many of the buildings and shops in this picturesque and historic village.
