E L L I E ’ S S T O R Y
Whether coordinating a kite making project with schoolchildren in cyclone affected villages, or designing outreach strategies for non-profit organizations and political candidates, Ellie Van Houtte is a skilled photographer and creative political professional. Dedicated to connecting communities across the globe together through cultural and political diplomacy, Ellie’s experiences range from documenting social institutions in India, to working with non-profit housing and social justice organizations in Washington, DC and Ohio, and even serving as a citizen diplomat on climate change, diplomacy, women’s rights and international affairs. Her compelling portfolio of humanitarian portraits from South-East Asia was recognized as a Lucie Foundation Scholarship Finalist in 2010. Ellie hopes to continue to inspire advocacy of critical social, political and environmental issues through photojournalism and collaboration with non-profit organizations.
T H E R O A D A H E A D . . .
Five years from now, I envision myself working in the field for organizations such as The National Geographic, The New York Times, and other international media and non-profit groups to provide visual imagery that narrates and inspires people to take action to resolve critical social, political and environmental issues. I also hope to utilize my background in political and issues organizing to benefit international organizations through event planning, strategic project management, and creative communications and outreach.
