I bought my first proper digital camera in January 2005. It was the first time I've had macro capability, and I had a lot of fun with it. My everyday surroundings at the time abounded in flowers and cacti, but I never realized just how much beauty was around me until I started taking the camera with me every time I went to lunch. Two cameras and a transatlantic move later, I'm still enjoying it.
