"I have only become aware of Elisabeth in the last couple of months. I originally saw her artwork on Facebook, where we are both members of the "I love Printmaking" group.
I believe the first image I saw, was MOR OG SØNN\ Mother and son, which to my mind is exquisite, tender and just perfect really.
She has only four pages on here as I write this. These include finished pieces as well as ‘trials’ or ‘tests”.
I don't think that I have ever found so much to interest my eyes and mind within such a small sample of another artists work. Oh and another thing believe me I have looked at a lot of stuff and I am pretty fussy!!
I love the way she interplays the elements of her compositions. These have a beautiful sense of instinct, introspection and play. There is a sense of sadness in some pieces and also a kind of questioning. Might sound like an odd thing to say but her use of empty space is to be admired.
Technically there is much experimentation with proofs, substrates and offsetting. Elisabeth also seems to have developed her own technique where by she cuts our figurative shapes from a particular kind of linoleum, which she then burns into to make the white lines in the outlined figures.
These ‘ shadow’ figures seem to represent undefined identities that reveal little other than what they portray with their gesture and stance. This strategy i.e., using profiles of figures fits together well with the overall theme or subject matter which I sense to be that of
a journey of the self, but one that many of us can recognize."5th May, 2008
