Millie is an experienced fighter for better neighborhoods and stronger families. Former President of the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida, she served four years on the Kendall Community Council and became Vice Chair in 2005. She is best known to many in the community as co-host of the popular weekly Miami radio program, Democracia al Día.

Not a career politician, Millie Herrera is an entrepreneur, who knows how to build a business and create jobs. After almost 2 decades working in the technology and marketing fields for the travel and other industries, Millie set out on her own, earned an MBA from Florida International University and founded The Miami Group, Inc., a management and marketing consulting firm, which she continues to lead.

Born in Havana, Mille fled Castro's Cuba as a child with her family who was facing political persecution from the regime. Her background reflects the diversity of our community. Millie grew up in Louisiana , spending many summers in Caracas, Venezuela, with her also Cuban exile father. Having lived in Kendall for more than 20 years, her own daughter, Ana Maria, grew up in Miami where she attended public schools and will soon become an FIU alumni like her mother.

As a mother, Millie also works tirelessly to help the next generation of young women realize their dreams. She serves on the Advisory Board to the Girl's Advocacy Project, volunteers as a Guardian Ad Litem in Miami-Dade County, and donated her time as Board Secretary for a leading nonprofit HIV/AIDS prevention organization (Union Positiva). In 2004, Millie became a Fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute and received the Hispana of Excellence Award by Hispanic magazine
