My career is in software engineering, and I excel at designing software/technology solutions. But I like to think that I'm fairly well-rounded -- one of the "geeks" who was actually good at creative writing, photography, English, literature, etc.

I started in photography around age 15 (too long ago to remember exactly!). I bought a Minolta X-700 35mm camera. In High School my dad built a dark room for me in our basement. I bought all my own equipment (paper route money is great as a kid!) and had a wonderful time. In my late 20's and early 30's I drifted away from photography a little. I shot snapshots like crazy with a compact digital (fairly low-res) camera, but it's not the same.

In 2006 I sold all my old 35mm camera equipment (eBay is great!) and re-invested the money back into a state-of-the-art DSLR (Olympus EVolt 500) and a new higher quality ultra compact point-and-shoot (Olympus FE-190), and I'm going to town again! :-)

I feel the need for disclaimer here. I use this account for 2 very different things. First, I use it to share photos with family and friends -- random quick snapshots taken during family functions just for the memories. The subject matter is the key, and I don't spend a lot of time "setting up the shot" at all. They're snap shots (often taken with a little compact camera).

Second, I post "artistic" pieces that I have put thought and work into, and are taken with a nice DSLR. There's more of the former than the latter, but don't worry -- I do not confuse the quick snapshots with art and vice-versa. :-)

I love the community aspect of Flickr, and truly enjoy meeting new people and viewing your photostreams. I find inspiration from others' works. If I see something I really like, I might try my hand at capturing something similar -- it's the sincerest form of flattery. :-) Don't be shy -- say hello.
