JVS attended a bachelor degree in architecture at the Instituto Tecnologico de Tijuana (ITT), graduated in the year 2000 with a construction administration background. Later he did a master’s degree in the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) within the Masters in Architecture program in the Environmental Urban Planning area, developed a thesis investigation: “Heat Islands; Urban climate and strategies of environmental design to mitigate its impact. The case of Mexicali B.C.”, which allowed him to make three publications two of these international.

Since 2004 architect Villanueva has been collaborating in urban projects and studies. In 2006 it founded Entorno Urbano consultancy specialized in urban development subjects, organization in which he has realized such as: research, documentation, analysis, evaluation and information management focused to the planning and execution of urban projects.
