(notes on photography)
(Photograhy is a lonely adventure)
.
(usually, I find that if a photo taken by me appears to be popular, most likely than not it is not a very good photo.)
.
(There is such an opinion, which you may not agree, i.e., strictly speaking, if at the time you take the photo, you do not look through the viewfinder, the resultant photo is not "taken by you".)
.
(if you pay too much attention on equipment, it will adversely affect the quality of your photos --- this is exactly what happened to me.)
.
(Famous mountains and rivers, flowers, birds, fish and insects, bueatiful women, ...etc., are all very good subject matter for taking photos. However, I only interested in taking photos of things or people that are important to me, and which I have strong feelings --- for the time being, that means Hong Kong and my family.)
.
(If a person took some very good photos, but the number of photos he took is extremely large, you may think he is just lucky, but...[still translating]
The last thing I want to leave you with is the notion that nothing is more important than the light. You should always be thinking about how
the light looks, how it models objects, where the shadows are falling. If you try to have your camera ready during those fleeting moments when the light is really interesting, the pictures almost create themselves. On the other hand, no matter how interesting the subjects or skillful the composition, an overly hard, flat, or glaring type of light will almost always prevent a great image from being made.”
.
聽過一位前輩說,他拍攝是 "to ask" rather than "to tell"。

"Eddie's stuff is the sort of stuff that we'll all still be looking at in twenty or fifty years.
He's got a good, natural sense of composition that lets you know what it was like to stand where he stood when he saw what he saw.
Ultimately, that's what matters in a photograph."26th September, 2006

" Eddie Law's work has a wonderfully vintage quality to it. He is a master at capturing the everyday world, shooting aspects of life many of us would probably not even give a second thought to.
His portraits are beautiful and touching. You feel like you have been allowed to look upon a tender moment between the subject and photographer.
Eddie's work is very inspiring and I always look forward to his latest photos.
I hope one day to read about Eddie hanging his work in a gallery. (if he already isn't hanging in a gallery)"10th February, 2006
