A traveller above all things, I enjoy vagabonding across the globe, followed by putting pins in my map when I get home. The combination of a camera, a backpack, and a plane ticket is unforgettable. An avid art historian, my first inspirations of far away places came from books like my grandmother's encyclopedia. In Jan 2009 I returned from my most ambitious trip to date. Six months around the world starting in Peru and Bolivia, then moving up to the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Alaska. Then onto Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Nepal, India, and finishing with an extended stay in Italy where I continued work on my Baroque & Rococo Church project, for which I've been shooting for nearly 15 years now.
In recent years, my portfolio has somewhat obsessively turned to the abandoned and decayed structures somewhat hidden within our society. I find true beauty in these places amongst their silent halls and empty rooms.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y.
"Of the gladdest moments in human life, methinks, is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of Habit, the leaden weight of Routine, the cloak of many Cares and the slavery of Home, one feels once more happy. The blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood... A journey, in fact, appeals to Imagination, to Memory, to Hope, -the three sister graces of our moral being."
- Sir Richard Francis Burton, 1856

"I've been a fan of earthmagnified's work for quite a long time. Time and time again, he never ceases to amaze me with his exacting compositions and absolutely perfect processing skills. His images are piercing, masculine, powerful, and emotional; every precise shot taken with his keen eye creates a story in a picture that needs no words to understand...
His obvious passion for travel, exploring, and photography is truly "magnified" within every picture in his photostream. I can also feel through the force in his photos and by past comments he's made around these pages that he is a genuinely good person. I always look forward to seeing the results of his latest escapades... and there is never a shot that disappoints!
Others may try, but will never achieve the level of photographic awesomeness that comes from the hands of earthmagnified... every subject he shoots – ranging from architecture to urban decay – becomes a stunning piece of art. I am truly humbled every time I view his photostream.
Keep rockin' on, Ray!!"23rd February, 2010

"This guy flat-out rocks the stage. Say no more... just look at the stream. I've been shooting with Ray for a little less than a year, and what a privilege it's been. Nobody knows the urbex scene better. Nobody takes better photos. Beyond that, it's also been one laugh after another. What more is there to say than that?"

"A traveler at heart, earthmagnified has a talent for seeking out and capturing the unexpected. His travel shots are unique and come from an unexpected POV. Attention to detail is what draws me into his photostream but the quality, consistant colour/tone and interesting subject matter are what keep me coming back for more.
I'd love to give a list of specific photos to look at but the entire stream is deserving of attention. I'm working my way through it now and have to say, I'm not disappointed.
He's very generous with comments and takes the time to sort through the "older" shots and for this, I'm very appreciative. A kind, talented camera owner with a zest for life...what more can you ask for in a photographer? Can't wait to see what comes next...keep 'em comin'!!"22nd April, 2009
